If you are ready to list your home for sale, inform your neighbors before it is placed 'on the market'.
Be a good neighbor!
Once you have selected the agent and you are ready to list; make up a notice to deliver to your neighbors. If you have the time, a hand written notice works best. Let them know the home is going on the market and who the listing agent is before the sign goes on the property.
The note will make your neighbors feel 'included' and will avoid any hurt feelings.
Take the time to deliver them yourself, so you may answer any questions your neighbor may have.
You do not have to tell them the asking price; it is all right to say you and your agent are still analyzing the market.
A neighbor may have a friend who is interested in purchasing in your neighborhood; it could be a quick sale.
The notice will also alert your neighbors to watch for problems and your neighbors will have someone to contact (your agent) if you are gone. It is good insurance for great showings!
And remember, the buyers of your home may inquire of your neighbors about the neighborhood etc. Your neighbors will not be 'caught' off guard.
