Katy still remembers 40 years later

Thanks to Yolanda Gilbert of Katy, TX for sharing a piece of Military History with us.  On September 20, 2011, 40 years after he was shotdown over the City of Anh Loc, The Katy VFW Post 9182 Remembers 1Lt Richard Russel, of the 374th Tactical Airlift Wing.  I have disabled all comments, so please stop by Yolanda's blog and leave her a comment

40 years ago 1st Lt. Richard Russell plane was shot down in Vietnam as the 374th Tactical Airlift Wing Crew was dropping supplies to troops cornered in city of Anh Loc.  The Katy Veterans of Wars Post 9182 honored Russell’s memory as well as other prisoners of war and military personnel missing in action during a ceremony at the Katy VFW hall on September 20th, 2011. Katy resident Marianne Russell still holds on to hope that one day her husband will come home.

The VFW also honored two other POW’s present at the ceremony. David Walker a Marine held captive during the Cold War. We actually had a WWII veteran named Ray Essig attend the ceremony as well.

For Marianne Russell she was just happy that after so many years people still cared.

The Katy Veterans of Wars Post 9182 is a very active Post and I salute them for all their contributions to the Katy Community.
